Gender and Sexuality in Curaçaoan Theatre: The Work of Felix de Rooy

The Department of Theatre Studies and the NWO-funded project ‘Cultural Practices of Citizenship under Conditions of Fragmented Sovereignty: Gendered and Sexual Citizenship in Curacao and Bonaire’ is honoured to organise the lecture ‘Gender and Sexuality in Curaçaoan Theatre: The Work of Felix de Rooy.’
As a poet, writer, dramatist, filmmaker, director, and curator, Felix de Rooy was awarded the Cola Debrot Award (1979), was a member of the Dutch Council for Culture (1990 till 1992), appointed Member in the Order of Orange-Nassau (2000) and recently was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award (2017) for his oeuvre.
In this lecture, Felix de Rooy will be talking about his earlier works that explicitly thematise sexuality and gender.
A panel will conclude the lecture with Prof. Gloria Wekker and faculty of the Theatre Studies Dept. of the University of Amsterdam.
